Brief Summary:
Dr. Moss major areas of medical interest involve genetic and acquired
heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias), acute and chronic coronary heart disease,
prevention of sudden cardiac death and heart failure, and clinical trials
involving drugs and devices (MADIT trials). He is an ongoing consultant to
the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to insure the safety of drugs used
in the prevention and treatment of patients with heart disease.
Dr. Moss major scientific accomplishments include the detection of mechanical
and electrical risk factors in patients with heart disease, identification
of clotting factors that contribute to progressive coronary disease, investigations
to improve patient outcome, and the discovery of genetic mechanisms involved
in heart rhythm disorders.
Dr. Moss has been active in the Jewish community of Rochester. He is a member
of Temple Brith Kodesh, served on its Temple Board of Trustees, and
is past President of the Rabbi Philip Bernstein Society. He has been responsible
during the past 20 years for bringing a series of young physicians from Israel
to his research program at the University of Rochester Medical Center for
2 to 3 years periods of advanced training in clinical investigation. He is
director of several multicenter research studies that include leading hospitals
and medical centers in Israel.
Dr. Moss wife, Joy Folkman Moss, is a teacher at Harley School and Associate
Professor at the University of Rochester Warner School of Education. She is
the author of several books for educators and has been active in the Rochester
Jewish community. Dr. Moss and his wife are the parents of three children
-- David Moss, Ph.D., Professor of Business History at Harvard Business School;
Deborah R. Moss, MD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of
Pittsburgh; and Katherine Lowengrub, MD, Psychiatrist in Rehovot, Israel
and nine outstanding grandchildren.
