Helen Cohen

Helen Cohen has been married to her best friend Earl "Chink" Cohen for 44 years (July 10, 1965). Together they have two sons, David & Mitchell (Cathy). Their "Pride & Joy" is their grand daughter, Natalie, who Helen says is "so special and helps us in so many ways."

Along the way, Helen has had a storied history in contributing to both Congregation Beth Sholom and the Rochester community. She is a former employee of the former Rochester Telephone company, having worked in their investigations unit for fraud and misuse. She is the original owner of Mrs. Cohen's Famous Cheesecake, which she sold to more than two dozen restaurants, the former Star Market and the Golden Hearth Bakery. Her service to Congregation Beth Sholom is even more impressive. She has served on the Beth Sholom Board; Israel Bonds Board; President of Hadassah "Margalit Group" twice; President of Beth Sholom Hebrew School; President of Beth Sholom Sisterhood; Treasurer of Beth Sholom Sisterhood; and co-owner of Treasures Chest with her dear friend and co-honoree, June Slavny. She and June also are founders of the Beth Sholom Thrift Shop. Now she spends most of her time helping her best friend, Chink, but is still very active in helping make Congregation Beth Sholom what it is today.

Kol Hakavod, Helen!
